Royal Stories

Today in the UK many are celebrating the Queen's Jubilee. Queen Elizabeth II has been on the throne for seventy years. We are unlikely to see any monarch on the throne for this long in our lifetimes, at the very least, and so whether you are a fan of royalty or not, I thought it was a moment worth marking.

Throughout history the bards have kept the stories of the monarchs and ruling classess and so below are three of my favourite stories of royalty.

The Queen Of Elfland - A Scandinavian tale of a queen forced tolive apart from her husband and children. You can listen to the story here.

The King Asleep The Hill - A local legend and one that can be found across Britain, this is the tale of a King that sleeps beneath a hill waiting to be called to defend his people once more. You can listen to the tale here.

The Blue Rose - A Chinese folktale of an emperor who's daughter is expected to marry and how she chooses her husband. You can read this story here.
